Families who qualify can now bid for state-owned building plots that were never allocated in earlier land divisions, as reported by Cyprus Mail. The Interior Ministry set November 30 as the closing date for submissions.

District Administrations released their first notices the same day, identifying the municipalities and communities where land is on offer. Selection will hinge on income and other requirements laid out in the programme.

Applicants must file the official form at the District Administration covering the area where the plot sits. The notices, form and a full guide are posted on the District Administrations' and Ministry of Interior's websites. The Cabinet cleared the plan on September 16, and it appeared in print two days later.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

For households locked out of the private land market, this is one of the few routes to a buildable plot without paying developer prices. But the pool is limited to leftovers from past subdivisions, so competition in popular districts will be fierce and income thresholds will decide most outcomes.

  • Act before the deadline. Forms go only through the District Administration office for the district where the plot lies, not central offices.
  • Check your eligibility first. Income and other criteria are set out in the scheme guide — read it before queuing.
  • Watch for more notices. Additional plots will be advertised once preparatory work finishes, and new plots may be carved out in communities that ask to join.
