Speaking at the 22nd Pink Figures march organised by Europa Donna Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides announced a monthly allowance for vulnerable patients, starting with those who have breast cancer. The payment will continue for the duration of treatment and for up to 12 months afterwards, as reported by Cyprus Mail.

A second measure covers free transport for patients from remote areas of Nicosia district to oncology centres. The president said both initiatives came from proposals put forward by the organisation itself.

"It is with particular joy that I take part in the march once again," Christodoulides told the crowd.

What it means for residents

For patients and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis, the two measures target the practical side of treatment — money and getting to appointments. The transport scheme is limited for now to remote parts of Nicosia district, so residents elsewhere on the island will not see a change yet.

  • Check eligibility — the monthly allowance is aimed at vulnerable patients with breast cancer first, so ask your oncology centre or Europa Donna Cyprus how the application works.
  • Transport from remote areas — if you live far from an oncology centre in Nicosia district, find out whether your address falls under the free transfer scheme before arranging your own transport.
  • Timing — no start date was given for either measure, so keep an eye on official announcements before budgeting around the benefit.
