In short

Who it applies to
Adults who want to learn Greek in Cyprus for daily life, work, residence or citizenship. Which level your goal requires is covered on the Greek levels page.
What it costs
State institutes are free for foreigners living in Cyprus permanently. Other adults pay €280 a year for levels Ε1–Ε3 and €300 for Ε4–Ε6, plus a €10 registration fee. The Επιμορφωτικά Κέντρα charge €55 a year.
How long it takes
Enrolment is usually in May–June; in 2026 it ran from 22 April to 10 June. A top-up round follows in September if places remain. Classes run from early September to the end of May.
Where to apply
At 46 institutes across Cyprus, usually in school buildings. You enrol at the institute itself; the list is on the ΚΙΕ website. Adult groups meet in the evening.
If your case differs
A group opens only if enough people enrol, so not every course runs everywhere. The institutes do not issue the certificate: the exam is taken separately.

Your case

You live in Cyprus permanently and can prove it

Tuition is free. Citizenship does not matter, residence does: the government decision requires supporting documents. The institute decides which ones it accepts, so ask before enrolling.

You cannot prove permanent residence

An adult pays €280 or €300 a year depending on level, plus €10 registration. The fee is paid in instalments.

Enrolment has closed

Ask your nearest institute whether a running group has places: late enrolment has its own, lower fee. If there are none, wait for the spring round.

You want something cheaper and less frequent

Επιμορφωτικά Κέντρα are courses for all Cyprus residents aged 18 and over: €55 a year and 25 weekly lessons. Enrolment is online only; in 2026 it was in September. There are less than half the lessons of an institute course, and it is not tied to an exam.

You need an intensive course

The University of Cyprus School of Modern Greek teaches in person and online: €500 per level and €25 registration as of May 2025. Check its website for current fees and dates. Its exam and A2 or B1 completion certificate count for citizenship.
