ArtCargo festival brings 30 performances to downtown Nicosia
The free festival takes over the old town from October 16 to 25, with circus, dance and participatory shows by artists from Cyprus and abroad.
Downtown Nicosia turns into a stage this month as the ArtCargo Festival arrives in the capital for the first time, as reported by Cyprus Mail. Between October 16 and 25, audiences can watch 30 performances across ten productions, with no tickets required thanks to backing from Exness, BFF, Nicosia Municipality and Mellow.
Among the acts are a French company performing around a tree, a duo balancing hundreds of glasses on wooden planks, and a show staged on a water screen. Streets and squares in the old town host the events, and several pieces invite passersby to join in rather than simply watch.
Exact locations for the performances are still to be announced by the organisers. The programme also includes a slackline demonstration by 11-year-old champion Kanon Ito, supported by the VF Foundation and the Embassy of Japan.
What it means for residents
For people living in or near Nicosia, the festival means a fortnight of free cultural activity within walking distance in the old town — but also busier streets and squares in the late afternoons and evenings.
- Getting around: Expect temporary crowds and possible short disruptions in central streets on performance days, especially around 2pm–8pm slots.
- Cost: Entry is free, so it is a low-cost option for families and evening outings.
- Plan ahead: Locations are announced shortly before each date, so check the festival's programme before heading out.
