Three separate robberies targeting cyclists took place in Limassol on Tuesday morning, all within a span of roughly 90 minutes, as reported by Cyprus Mail. Investigations are underway into each incident.

In the first case, a 23-year-old man was cycling on Promachon Eleftherias Street at about 3.30am when two people on a motorcycle stopped him, with the passenger demanding his wallet before pushing him and riding off. Shortly afterwards, on the same road roughly 30 metres away, a 20-year-old woman was approached by six individuals on three small motorcycles; two of them took her bag containing money and personal documents after she said she had none to hand over.

The third robbery occurred on Nikou Pattihi Street, where three masked individuals on two motorcycles approached a 50-year-old woman. One pulled her bag, causing her to fall and suffer minor injuries, and the perpetrators fled with the bag containing money, a mobile phone and other personal belongings.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

These incidents, clustered in the early hours and targeting cyclists, raise practical concerns for anyone moving around Limassol at night or before dawn.

  • Stay alert on quiet roads. The attacks happened on the same street and nearby, within a very short window — if you cycle at night, consider well-lit routes and avoid isolated stretches.
  • Carry less. Victims lost bags with cash and documents; keeping valuables to a minimum and using secure pockets or a money belt reduces what can be taken.
  • Report anything suspicious. Police are investigating, and timely reports of groups on motorcycles acting oddly could help connect the cases.
