Cyprus to move some residence permit renewals online from January 1
From the start of next year, renewals for several categories of residence permit will be accepted only through gov.cy, the migration deputy ministry has announced.
Certain residence permit renewals will no longer be handled on paper, according to the migration deputy ministry, which says applications must go through the gov.cy portal starting January 1.
The change covers renewals for domestic workers, employees of foreign interest companies, family reunification, and temporary permits for people still with the same employer as when their first permit was issued. Renewals of permanent residence permits also shift online.
Anyone applying will need a CY login account to file the request through the government website.
What it means for residents
For third-country nationals living on the island, the paperwork of staying legal is about to change shape. Those affected should not wait until their permit is close to expiring to sort out access to the system, because a missing account can stall an application.
- Set up your CY login now. Without it, the renewal cannot be filed once the online-only rule kicks in.
- Check which category you fall under. The move applies to specific permit types, so not every applicant is affected in the same way.
- Keep copies of everything. Digital submissions still need supporting documents, and employers may have to confirm details.
