Cyprus extends 2025 tax return deadline to November 30

Taxpayers on the island get extra time to file their 2025 returns without interest or penalties, the tax department says, after about 253,000 filings were processed by mid-October.

Cyprus has pushed back the filing date for 2025 income tax returns to the end of November, according to the tax department's chief Marios Michail, as reported by Cyprus Mail. No interest or penalties will be charged for submissions made before that cut-off.

By October 19, roughly 253,000 returns had been handled, including 25,500 sitting in provisional receipt status. That figure represents 74 per cent of the 2024 total processed at the same stage, with completed filings at about 68 per cent.

Michail attributed the move to several factors, among them a growing pool of filers — around 245,000 in 2016. Work on outstanding 2024 declarations continues, while everything up to 2023 has been cleared apart from a few cases still needing attention. Refunds will only be released once every stage of the process is finished.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

The extra month takes pressure off anyone who has not yet filed, but it does not remove the obligation itself — and refunds stay frozen until the paperwork clears.

  • Check your status. If your return is still sitting as a provisional receipt, confirm it has gone through rather than assuming the extension covers you.
  • Know the threshold. For 2025, filing is mandatory for individuals with gross income above €19,500; lower earners may submit voluntarily.
  • Don't bank on a quick refund. Payments wait until all processing stages are complete, so plan finances accordingly.
