Highway upgrades to disrupt traffic across Cyprus next week
Bridge inspections and resurfacing will close lanes and entrances on the Paphos-Limassol and Kofinou-Larnaca highways, with night works and diversions planned.
Drivers using two of Cyprus's busiest motorways should plan extra time next week, as the public works department has scheduled inspections and resurfacing at multiple points, according to Cyprus Mail. The works will force lane shifts, temporary closures and detours.
On the Paphos-Limassol highway, checks on the Pissouri and Kourion bridges are set for Monday and Tuesday respectively, each running from 8.30am to 3pm, with vehicles moved onto the fast lane. Resurfacing between Konya and Ayia Varvara toward Limassol runs Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm, with traffic rerouted through openings near Ayia Marinouda and Anatoliko.
On the Kofinou-Larnaca highway, surface repairs toward Larnaca take place Monday through Thursday, 8pm-5.30am, closing both lanes in four-kilometre stretches while traffic uses the opposite carriageway. The Alethriko and Klavdia entrances will be shut, with detours via Anglisides and the Kalo Chorio roundabout.
What it means for residents
Commuters between Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca face slower journeys and changed access points for most of the week, so building in buffer time is sensible.
- Night drivers: the Larnaca-bound carriageway near Kofinou is affected overnight, so check entrance closures before setting off.
- Village access: Alethriko and Klavdia entry slips are out of use — use Anglisides or the Kalo Chorio roundabout instead.
- Daytime traffic: expect single-lane running over the Pissouri and Kourion bridges and near Konya and Ayia Varvara.
