Cyprus flags EU Safety Gate alerts on Ford, BMW and Mercedes models
The Road Transport Department has asked dealers and importers in Cyprus to report whether vehicles and parts named in the EU's Safety Gate alerts for weeks 37–39 of 2026 have reached the local market.
Several well-known car and motorcycle brands appear among products listed as dangerous on the EU's Safety Gate rapid alert system for non-food goods during weeks 37, 38 and 39 of 2026, according to the Road Transport Department, which cites the Consumer Protection Service.
The department has called on manufacturers, their local representatives, distributors, importers and sellers — including those trading online or at a distance — to tell it about any of these products they may have placed or are placing on the Cyprus market.
Passenger models named include Ford, BMW, Jeep, Land Rover, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Kia, Dodge, Cadillac and Renault Trucks, while the two-wheeler entries come from BMW Motorrad, BRP Can-Am, Rewaco and Hengjian.
What it means for residents
If you drive, ride or are waiting on a delivery of one of these vehicles or parts, the practical question is whether your unit falls under an active alert — and that is something the importer or dealer should be able to confirm, not something you can judge from the brand name alone.
- Check with your dealer or importer. If your model or part is covered, ask what remedy applies and who carries the cost.
- Keep paperwork. A purchase invoice or service record helps if a recall or repair is later confirmed for your vehicle.
- Buying used or online? Sellers operating remotely are also expected to report affected stock, so ask for the model details before you pay.
