As reported by Cyprus Mail, the MahallArt 26 cultural festival, run by Larnaka 2030, will bring three days of free events to the Ais Yiannis area of Larnaca from October 8 to 10.

The opening night on Thursday, October 8 features a screening of Ken Loach's The Old Oak at Ais Yiannis Square at 8pm, shown in English with Greek subtitles. Friday's programme includes art walks, theatre, dance, photography and music, plus a tote-bag printing workshop and collective artwork session between 7pm and 9pm.

On Sunday, October 10, an open discussion about the festival takes place at the Politikos Omilos Vasilitzia club house at 10.30am, with complimentary coffee and treats. MahallArt will run until November 8, moving on to Stavrodromi, Dromolaxia-Meneou-Kiti and the Ayioi Anargyroi refugee settlement.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

For people in Ais Yiannis, this is three days of free, walkable entertainment on their doorstep, with events designed around the neighbourhood's own character. Expect some local disruption from street activity, but no road closures or ticketed entry are mentioned.

  • Free entry — all events, including the film night and workshops, are open to the public at no cost.
  • Local buzz — the square and nearby streets will be busier than usual in the evenings of October 8 and 9.
  • Longer run — the festival continues into other Larnaca districts until November 8, so residents elsewhere can watch for their own dates.
