Orange storm alert issued for Paphos, Limassol and parts of Larnaca
A low-pressure system is expected to bring severe thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible hail to western and southern districts from Wednesday afternoon until early Thursday.
Residents of Paphos and Limassol districts, along with some areas of Larnaca district, received an emergency notification on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by Cyprus Mail. The alert went out through the CY-ALERT system at 1.47pm.
Civil Defence warned that a low-pressure system carrying strong thunderstorms would move into these areas, bringing shifting winds that could reach gale force during storms. Hail is also a possibility.
The orange-level warning remains in force from 3pm on Wednesday until 5am on Thursday.
What it means for residents
Anyone living or travelling in the affected districts should plan around the storm window, which stretches through the night and into early Thursday morning.
- Secure outdoor spaces — bring in loose items from balconies and gardens before winds pick up in the afternoon.
- Delay travel if possible — roads in Paphos, Limassol and parts of Larnaca may become hazardous during heavy rain and hail.
- Check on neighbours — older residents and those in vulnerable housing may need help preparing for power cuts or flooding.
