Saturday opens with patchy cloud over much of Cyprus and showers over the Karpas peninsula, according to Cyprus Mail. As the hours pass, that wet weather is expected to drift across the island in the direction of the inland mountains.

Daytime highs are forecast at 25 degrees Celsius both inland and along the coasts, while the mountains will stay much cooler at 14 degrees Celsius. After dark, further scattered rain is likely, mainly in the western half of the island and on the coasts.

Night-time temperatures are set to fall to 14 degrees Celsius inland, 17 degrees Celsius on the west coast, 16 degrees Celsius elsewhere on the coast, and six degrees Celsius in the mountains. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday should bring brighter skies, though spells of thicker cloud will return at times, and the mercury should hold steady over the coming days.

What it means for residents

Unsettled spring weather of this kind mainly affects people's daily plans rather than posing any serious risk, but a few small habits are worth keeping in mind.

  • On the road: showers can leave asphalt slippery and reduce visibility, particularly on mountain routes where temperatures are far lower — allow extra time and keep a jacket handy.
  • At home: with rain arriving after dark in the west and along the coast, it is a good moment to check that balconies, awnings and drains are ready for water.
  • Outdoors: the clearer skies from Sunday onwards make the weekend's tail end and the start of the week the better bet for planning anything outside.
