Most of Cyprus will stay under unsettled weather until Sunday, as a low pressure system keeps feeding showers and thunderstorms into the region. According to the Cyprus Mail, the coming three days will bring spells of heavy rain, possible hail and strengthening winds.

Coastal areas will see scattered showers or storms at intervals, while inland districts, the north, the east and the upper slopes of the Troodos range face isolated thunderstorms later on. Gusts will build through the day, and temperatures will reach 28 degrees Celsius inland and along the southern and eastern coasts, 27 on the remaining shores and 16 in the mountains.

Overnight conditions stay stormy in many places, with the mercury falling to 15 degrees Celsius inland, 18 on the coast and 7 at higher altitudes. The unsettled pattern is expected to hold through the weekend, with readings staying under the seasonal norm.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

Three days of storms in the middle of the season mean everyday plans on the island need a weather check first, especially for anyone driving or working outdoors.

  • On the roads: heavy rain and hail can make mountain routes and rural roads slippery, so allow extra time and keep a safe distance.
  • At home: clear balconies and yards of loose items before the winds pick up, and check that drains and gutters are not blocked.
  • Outdoors: if you have plans near the coast or in the Troodos area, keep an eye on forecasts and be ready to move them indoors.
