Statos–Agios Fotios

A village at 950 m in the Paphos mountains, 31 km from Paphos. Vineyards and local wines, walnut-lined streets and a Christmas village from 21 November.

Checked: 31 October 2026

Statos–Agios Fotios is a new village. The two old villages of Statos and Agios Fotios were hit by landslides in 1966–1969, and at the end of 1973 the first residents moved to the new site. Ruined houses still stand in the abandoned old villages.

It is a wine-growing community in the Paphos mountains: because of the altitude, its vineyards are the last in the area to ripen. Every street in the village is lined with walnut trees, planted on the initiative of Archbishop Chrysostomos I, who came from here.

Wine and local produce

The vineyards grow the local black grape (mavro), xynisteri, cabernet and a little malaga. The harvest starts at the end of August, often in early September.

Besides wine, the village produces apples, pears, peaches, cherries, raisins, walnuts and almonds, as well as zivania, soutzoukos, tsamarella, sausages, halloumi and trahanas.

What to see

Next to the Church of Christ the Saviour stands a memorial to the heroes of 1974. The community park has large walnut trees, a playground and an amphitheatre.

The monasteries of Chrysorrogiatissa and Agia Moni are close by. Ruined houses remain in the old abandoned villages.
