Two lanes on the Limassol–Paphos motorway have been shut to traffic on Wednesday, according to police, with the closures affecting the stretch between the Kouklia weighbridge and Agia Varvara. Vehicles heading for Agia Varvara are being routed onto the opposite carriageway, where traffic is currently moving in both directions.

Road works are taking place along that section of the highway. Police said the severe weather in the area is adding to the difficulties and called on motorists to slow down, be especially careful and obey officers stationed on the spot.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

Anyone using the Limassol–Paphos motorway on Wednesday should expect slower journeys around the Kouklia and Agia Varvara area, since one direction is now sharing a single carriageway with oncoming vehicles while road works continue.

  • Allow extra time for journeys between Limassol and Paphos, particularly in the afternoon, and check for updates before setting off.
  • Reduce speed on the diversion and keep a safe distance, as rain and wet surfaces make that stretch harder to handle.
  • Follow officers on site, whose directions override road markings and signs while the lanes stay closed.
