Residents across Cyprus should prepare for unsettled weather on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies, intermittent rain and scattered thunderstorms that may drop hail, according to the Cyprus Mail. Conditions are forecast to clear noticeably from late afternoon onwards.

Daytime highs will reach about 26C inland and along the coast, while the higher mountains will see around 15C. Winds begin southerly to southwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, later shifting southwesterly to northwesterly, though they will turn stronger and variable during storms.

Thursday night may bring more cloud and patchy rain near the coast, particularly in the west and north, where an isolated thunderstorm is possible. Friday looks partly cloudy with isolated showers and storms after midday, mainly over the mountains, inland areas and the north.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

Hail and heavy showers can disrupt daily routines on the island, from commutes to outdoor plans, and the unsettled pattern lingers into the weekend.

  • Driving: Wet roads and possible hail call for slower speeds and extra distance, especially on mountain routes.
  • Outdoor plans: Friday and Saturday storms are most likely after midday in the mountains and north, so morning activities are safer.
  • Clothing: Below-normal temperatures persist until Sunday, so keep a layer handy despite the late-season date.
