Tenders for the four-lane road linking Paphos with Polis Chrysochous should go out in the first half of 2027, covering both phases of the scheme, Transport Minister Evie Tsolaki said after talks in Polis attended by all parties involved, as reported by Cyprus Mail.

Tsolaki said land expropriations are already under way and that planning for an additional pair of lanes is proceeding in parallel, so the project does not fall behind again. The procurement terms are still being drafted, after which bids will be invited and then assessed — a process the minister described as slow.

Polis mayor Yiotis Papachristofi said his area has borne the brunt of the repeated setbacks and voiced hope that the scheme will now move ahead properly.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

The road has been talked about since 1990, and with tenders now pencilled in for 2027, anyone commuting between Paphos and the Polis area should plan for the existing route to stay as it is for several more years. The practical effects will land gradually.

  • Property owners along the corridor should watch for expropriation paperwork, since the land acquisition process is already moving.
  • Drivers and businesses in the northwest should not count on faster journeys soon — bidding and evaluation still lie ahead.
  • Local stakeholders can press for the additional lanes to be included in the same procurement round rather than a later one.
