Cyprus's inflation rate came in at 4.4 per cent for October on the national measure, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), while Eurostat's harmonised index put it at 5.4 per cent. The gap stems from two different methodologies rather than conflicting price data.

Energy categories drove the annual increase: petroleum products climbed 30.6 per cent and electricity and water 13.6 per cent compared with October 2025. Transport rose 13.7 per cent and housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels were up 10.8 per cent.

The Consumer Price Index gained 1.12 per cent month-on-month to 105.17 points, with agricultural goods up 3.9 per cent on September. Clothing and footwear was the only category to fall annually, down 9.3 per cent, though it rebounded 5.4 per cent on the month.

What it means for residents

For households, the figures confirm that fuel and power bills remain the main pressure on monthly budgets, while food and transport add to the squeeze. Salaried workers and pensioners on fixed incomes will feel the difference most sharply as winter heating demand begins.

  • Fuel and electricity: petroleum products are up nearly a third year-on-year, so review heating and transport spending now rather than after the first cold snap.
  • Rent and housing: the housing and utilities category rose 10.8 per cent annually, which may feed into rental negotiations and service charges.
  • Watch the HICP: Cystat publishes its October harmonised data on November 19, the figure used for EU-wide comparisons.
