The National Guard is inviting the public into its Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos over two days, November 8 and 9, to mark Cyprus Air Force Day, as announced by the force on X.

Gates stay open from 1pm until 4pm on the Sunday and from 10am to 4pm on the Monday. Guests can inspect aircraft, equipment and weapons systems at close range and take in aerial demonstrations, while model aircraft fans and aviation clubs put on an exhibition.

The Air Force holds its annual celebration on Sunday, November 8.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

For families in Paphos and beyond, this is a rare free chance to see military aviation up close without travelling far, but the short windows and base security mean a little planning pays off.

  • Timing: the Sunday slot is only three hours, so arrive early in the 1pm–4pm window if aircraft displays matter to you.
  • Access: expect checks at the gate and follow base staff instructions; bring ID as you would for any military site.
  • Traffic: roads around the base will be busier than usual both afternoons, so allow extra time.
