Nicosia Municipality will resurface three of the capital's central arteries over six nights spread between 10 and 18 November, as reported by Cyprus Mail. Traffic will be stopped along the affected stretches from 9pm until 6am, with diversions in place.

The closures run in stages: Michalakis Karaolis Street on 10 November, Grivas Digenis Avenue on 11, 12 and 17 November, and Spyros Kyprianou Avenue on 16 and 18 November. Most sections close in the direction of the city centre, while the 17 and 18 November works affect traffic heading towards Engomi.

On the final night, vehicles will be sent along Archbishop Makarios III Avenue instead. Drivers are urged to slow down and obey the temporary signage and officers on duty.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

Anyone who crosses the centre after dark — late shifts, airport runs, taxis — should budget extra time or pick a different line through the city on these six nights.

  • Evening travel: the closures start at 9pm, so trips that begin before then but run late may still meet barriers.
  • Direction matters: check which way the section is shut, since some nights block city-centre-bound lanes and others the Engomi-bound side.
  • On the ground: follow the temporary signs and police instructions rather than satnav, which may not yet reflect the nightly changes.
