Police are warning of poor visibility on mountain roads in the Limassol district after thick fog formed on Thursday morning. The worst-affected spots include Agros, Chandria and Kyperounta, according to the force.

Drivers and anyone else travelling through those areas are being asked to take extra care. The police bulletin reflected conditions at roughly 9.15am, and the picture may change as the weather develops.

Editorial note

What it means for residents

Mountain villages are a daily route for many people who commute, run errands or take children to school, and fog turns familiar bends into genuinely risky ones. Visibility can drop fast with altitude, so a clear morning in Limassol city says little about conditions higher up.

  • Slow down and light up. Keep a wider gap from the car ahead and switch on low beams — high beams reflect off fog and make things worse.
  • Check before you climb. Conditions around Agros, Chandria and Kyperounta were described at about 9.15am and can shift through the day, so allow extra time or postpone non-essential trips.
  • Watch for the unexpected. On narrow mountain roads, slow-moving vehicles and livestock can appear suddenly out of the murk.
