Cyprus to fund five fertility cycles per patient from 2027
The health ministry plans to raise subsidised fertility treatment from four cycles to five, keeping the €4,500 per attempt and a €7m scheme budget.
Couples undergoing fertility treatment in Cyprus could soon get one more funded attempt, as the health ministry moves to lift the number of subsidised cycles from four to five. The €4,500 contribution per attempt stays as it is, according to Cyprus Mail, and the ministry intends to fold the scheme into its 2027 budget.
Presenting the ministry’s budget on Friday, Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides put the infertility programme’s allocation at €7 million and said a revised version of the scheme would go to the Council of Ministers soon. The push for extra cycles came from House health committee chairwoman Savia Orphanidou, a Disy MP, during the budget debate.
What it means for residents
For anyone paying for IVF out of pocket, an additional funded cycle is real money — but only once the revised scheme is approved and written into the budget, so nothing changes for patients yet.
- Check before you plan. Confirm with the ministry or your clinic whether a fifth cycle is already available or still awaiting the Council of Ministers’ decision.
- Keep receipts and referrals. The €4,500 per attempt is unchanged, so any costs above that remain yours to cover.
- Watch the 2027 budget. The scheme’s place in the ministry’s spending plan is where the final rules will be set.
