Paphos–Limassol tunnel to shut one bore at a time for two weeks
Maintenance on the motorway tunnel starts Monday 9 November, with a single tube carrying traffic both ways from 8am to 7pm on weekdays.
Drivers on the Paphos–Limassol motorway face two weeks of single-tube running from Monday, as maintenance crews take one tunnel out of service at a time, according to police. Both directions of traffic will share whichever bore stays open, with the restrictions in force daily between 8am and 7pm.
The Limassol-bound tube shuts first, from Monday 9 to Friday 13 November, leaving the Paphos-bound bore to handle traffic both ways. The pattern flips the following week: from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November the Paphos-bound tube closes and the Limassol-bound one carries everyone.
Each evening the closed bore reopens at 7pm and stays in use overnight, until work restarts at 8am. Police asked motorists to slow down, keep a safe gap from the vehicle in front and obey the temporary signs around the works.
What it means for residents
Anyone regularly driving between Paphos and Limassol should budget extra time during the day for the next two weeks. The overnight window stays clear, so late trips are largely unaffected.
- Rush hour: head out before 8am or after 7pm where possible, since single-tube traffic will move slowly.
- Two-way running: expect oncoming vehicles in the open bore and resist overtaking.
- Signs: follow the temporary markings in the works zone rather than habit.
